Tips for Transitioning Your Skincare Routine this Fall/Winter - Three Ships

With fall weather upon us, we can start to anticipate fall season’s greetings - pumpkin-spiced lattes, knit sweaters, and long trail hikes! But the changing of seasons can create a change in your skin. Let’s take a look at some effortless and effective ways to upgrade your new skincare routine!

Why the Skin Changes

The summer season calls for hot and humid weather which causes the skin to soften and retain moisture leading to increased oil production. As the weather starts to cool down, there is a drop in humidity. Exposure to dry weather for long periods of time can lead to parched, dry skin.

Tips for Switching a Skincare Routine

1. Use a Gentle Cleanser

Due to the skin producing less oil during colder months, it's recommended to switch out your lightweight and foam-based cleanser for a more hydrating option. Purify Aloe Amino Acid Cleanser is gentle on the skin, while nevertheless removing excess dirt and added build-up throughout the day. Purify contains 26% Aloe Vera making it a perfect hero ingredient for soothing and hydrating the skin!

2.  Exfoliate Regularly

The cold air causes dehydrating skin, leading to flakey dead skin at the surface. In order to combat this, we recommend exfoliating 2x-3x a week to buff out the dead skin cells on the skin’s surface layer. Superfruit Lactic + Multifruit 8% AHA Exfoliating Mask uses rice powder to polish the skin's surface and fruit-based AHAs to brighten and remove dead skin cells.

3. Use a Thicker Moisturizer

Moisturizers and creams help to lock in the skin’s moisture. Although it is labelled as a night cream, our Dream Bio-Retinol + Shorea Butter Night Cream contains vegan squalane and nourishing seed butters like Shorea and Murumuru to give Dream a thick texture that nicely seals in moisture!

4. Opt for a Hydrating Serum

Oil serums and facial oils are great for locking in moisture and keeping the skin hydrated for longer periods of time! Glow 49% Jojoba Oil Serum is an oil-based serum that minimizes the appearance of pores and reduces excess oil, leaving you with hydrated and dewy skin.

5. Keep a Lip Balm Handy

Your lips have weaker barrier levels of skin making them more susceptible to flakiness. Our Lip Treatment Kit includes the Vanilla Lip Exfoliator and our award-winning Buttercream Hydrating Lip Mask! First, massage the exfoliator into the lips to get rid of any dead skin while leaving a plumping effect. Next, apply the lip mask to encourage cell growth for hydrating lips!
