We Answer All Your FAQs about our Skin Hero Bio-Retinol Serum
Think you can’t use retinol? Think again! Our Skin Hero Bakuchiol + Calendula Bio-Retinol Serum brings together the skin-transforming power of Bakuchiol with the soothing benefits of Calendula to deliver the same skin-improving results as traditional retinol - without the irritation. Here’s everything you need to know about your skin’s new favorite product!
What makes Skin Hero Bio-Retinol Serum so special?
Skin Hero Bakuchiol + Calendula Bio-Retinol Serum is a water-based bio-retinol serum formulated for all skin types, including sensitive and acne-prone skin. Our Skin Hero formula includes 2% Bakuchiol to give your skin maximum line-smoothing, glow-boosting and blemish-fighting benefits. The added Calendula helps to keep this serum soothing and nourishing, so you can get the positive effects of retinol - without the irritation. Together, these skin-transforming ingredients help to smooth the look of fine lines and wrinkles, visibly fade dark spots and discoloration, and reduce the appearance of breakouts.
How do you use Skin Hero Bio-Retinol Serum in your skincare routine?
Use Skin Hero Bakuchiol + Calendula Bio-Retinol Serum after cleansing and toning, and before moisturizing.
Simply use 1-2 pumps and pat it into the surface level of the skin to fully absorb.
Pro Tip: While Skin Hero is meant for everyday use, if you have not previously used a bio-retinol-based product, it is recommended to slowly incorporate it into your skincare routine. Use 1-2 times a week and build from there.
Get to know the Hero Ingredients:
Bakuchiol (2%) - The star ingredient in our Skin Hero Bio-Retinol Serum! Bakuchiol is a plant-based retinol alternative that’s clinically proven to support collagen production and prevent moisture loss. This special ingredient is a natural alternative to retinoids that helps smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Calendula (3%) - Skin feeling tight and dry? Calendula extract is a naturally occurring antioxidant that has high concentrations of fatty acids which are abundant in the skin. By supplementing the body with these fatty acids, Calendula extract keeps the skin hydrated and helps stimulate collagen production.
Rosehip Fruit Oil (1%) - Need to brighten up? Our Rosehip Oil is organic and sourced from Ukraine - free of GMOs and pesticides. It has been known to lighten dark spots, and support the skin’s lipid barrier, leaving a brighter complexion!
Why is bio-retinol better than traditional retinol?
The bio-retinol in Skin Hero comes from Bakuchiol, a plant-based retinol alternative. Many studies have shown that Bakuchiol actually outperforms retinol in increasing collagen production and reducing skin inflammation.
What makes Skin Hero better than other bakuchiol serums on the market?
Skin Hero includes two powerful hero ingredients: Bakuchiol & Calendula. We wanted to create a bio-retinol serum that delivered the results we come to expect from retinol-based products, minus the irritation. Pairing Bakuchiol (a plant-based retinol alternative) with Calendula (a soothing, anti-inflammatory ingredient) creates a perfect pair to target fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and acne - without any irritation. Skin Hero Bakuchiol + Calendula Bio-Retinol is also a safe option for those with sensitive skin.
Additionally, a lot of bakuchiol serums on the market only include 1% Bakuchiol, whereas Skin Hero contains 2% Bakuchiol in its formulation. We were able to formulate Skin Hero to give you the maximum results possible, without the irritation.
Is this safe for pregnancy/breastfeeding?
Skin Hero Bakuchiol + Calendula Bio-Retinol is totally safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding. The use of retinoids are advised against during pregnancy and breastfeeding out of an abundance of caution. However, Bakuchiol (the hero ingredient in Skin Hero) mimics retinol, and does not actually contain any Vitamin A or derivative. If you are changing up your skincare routine, we always recommend consulting with your doctor first.
What are the differences between Dream Bio-Retinol Night Cream and Skin Hero Bio-Retinol Serum?
While both contain a retinol substitute, our Dream Bio-Retinol + Shorea Butter Night Cream and Skin Hero Bakuchiol + Calendula Bio-Retinol Serum use bio-retinoids derived from differing plants. Dream’s formula includes a bio-retinol sourced from Picão Preto (a Brazilian native herb) whereas Skin Hero uses Bakuchiol as a plant-based alternative.
Skin Hero is overall a more active product. It contains 2% Bakuchiol in comparison to Dream’s 1% Picão Preto. Layering both can introduce stability concerns and potentially increase skin sensitivity, so it’s always best to introduce the new active ingredient slowly into your routine. Once adjusted, together the products will yield beautiful results!
Are there certain products that Skin Hero should not be used with?
We suggest not using Skin Hero with AHA-based products, including Superfruit Lactic + Multifruit 8% AHA Exfoliating Mask within the same day. The combination of retinoids with various acids may cause excessive skin sensitivity, irritation, and redness. They can be used in an alternating format, and/or at different times of the day, following a skin cycling format.
