Skin Tips for Oily Skin Types

Skin Tips for Oily Skin Types - Three Ships

Having oily skin can be confusing sometimes, because face oils are actually good for your skin, but dealing and finding the right skincare routine for super oily skin isn’t the easiest. Oily skin can cause acne, a greasy T-zone, and constant clogged pores or blackheads.

Your skin type is mostly based on genetic and hormones, but sebum production can be affected by the amount of UV light you absorb, pollution, and some chemicals that are used in the cosmetic products that block pores, which exacerbate the oiliness.

How to Take Care of Your Oily Skin Externally

1. Avoid Harsh Chemicals

Harsh chemicals trigger more oil – avoid any products with alcohol. Try using an alcohol-free toner (such as our Calm and Awake toners) with antioxidants that helps to replenish your skin.

2. Avoid Products With Pore-Clogging Ingredients

These can also exacerbate oiliness of your skin – try to avoid using thick or creamy formulas.  We recommend switching to liquid, weightless serums, or anything light.

1. Keep Your Body Hydrated

Try drinking as much water as you can, preferably 2L every day. Pro tip: add a slice of lemon to flush out toxins from the blood and brighten your skin!

2. Incorporate a plant-based and alkaline diet

Implementing a plant-based lifestyle can help balance your skin. Eating foods that are high in antioxidants and consuming less animal products reduces inflammation and regulates sebum production. Shifting your diet to an alkaline diet will also help to balance hormone levels which helps to deliver important nutrients to the skin.

3. Cut Out Refined Sugar

Sugar intake can increase your blood sugar levels, which creates more insulin in your body, thus encouraging oil production and increasing the changes of developing acne. Natural sugars are necessary to be consumed in our diet, but eating too much sugar can cause inflammation.
