Australian born, Rosie Jane Johnson moved to the US when she was 21. Before starting By/ Rosie Jane, she was a makeup artist - working with clients like Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Kristen Wiig, John Mayer, and Bryan Cranston. She is a mother of 3 and came about working in fragrance almost by accident. Rosie wanted a signature scent that was safe to wear while I was pregnant, and that's how she developed her first fragrance, Leila Lou.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself, and what inspired you to start By/ Rosie Jane?
By/Rosie Jane is a lifestyle brand I founded in 2010. I would mix my own fragrance, my “signature scent” (now known as our Leila Lou) but couldn’t find anything on the market that resembled it. And after wearing it for awhile, friends, family, and acquaintances started to ask if I could make the fragrance for them. This was also the time I started researching ingredients and how hard it was to really know what was going into fragrances. And the company developed from there.
What does your typical day look like?
Wake up, make tea, breakfasts/lunches. I then walk my kids to school and will later do a 5-10 minute meditation. I then head to the office. After work, it’s home to the family, to have some dinner and catch up on the day.
What was the worst piece of advice you’ve ever received?
“Don’t move to the United States.”
What does success mean to you?
Loving what you do but still being able to be financially independent.
In moments of self-doubt or adversity, how do you build yourself back up?
I love gratitude mantras, sayings, and quotes. Cleo Wade is a fave. I find it best to look around and see how far you’ve come, appreciate it, and keep pushing.
Do you have any morning routines or evening rituals to help you stay balanced?
Meditate by morning, wine by night.
Shop By/ Rosie Jane.
